This is a work I’m very satisfied with!
The copy of Cupid with Butterfly (L’Amour au Papillon) by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905).
Bouguereau was a nineteenth-century French painter whose career took place in the full period of French Academic art. He was one of the most famous representatives of his time.
He produced a vast number of mythological, historical and religious paintings, with particular emphasis on the female figure. He produced many artistic nudes, portraits and a part of his production was dedicated to portraits of young girls and girls of farming origin.
By the early twentieth century, Bouguereau and his art quickly fell out of favor with the public with the advent of the new artistic avant-garde movements.
In the 1980s, a revival of interest in figure and academic painting led to a rediscovery and an extensive revaluation of the artist and his work.
Cupid with Butterfly was painted in 1888. Currently the original painting is situated in the collection of Fred and Sherry Ross (Art Renewal Center), in New Jersey.
This art copy is hand painted with oil colors of finest quality on cotton canvas.
